Fused quartz and silica are among the most valuable materials available to industry and science. Semi-finished products made of fused quartz or fused silica possess a unique range of properties.
The definition of quartz glass requires the analysis of the origin of the synthetic process, which depends on the raw material. It has to differentiate between the terms fused quartz and fused silica. If naturally occurring crystalline silica (sand or rock) is molten, the material is simply called fused quartz. Synthetically produced quartz material, however, is referred to as synthetic fused silica.
